The Tense

 কোন Verb এর কাজ কখন সংঘটিত হয়, হয়েছিল বা হবে তা নির্দেশ করার জন্য ঐ Verb এর যে রূপগুলো ব্যবহৃত হয় তাকে Tense বা ক্রিয়ার কাল বলে।

Present indefinite tense

• Rule: অভ্যাসগতভাবে, সাধারণ সত্য বা চিরন্তন সত্য হিসাবে আমাদের চারপাশে যে সকল কাজ অহরহ ঘটে, সেসব কাজকে Present indefinite tense দ্বারা প্রকাশ করা হয়।
• Rule: সুনির্দিষ্ট কোন সময় উল্লেখ করা না হলে বাক্যে যদি always, often, sometimes, everyday, daily, regularly, normally, occasionally, generally ইত্যাদি থাকে তবে বাক্যের Verb টি Present indefinite tense হয়।
• বাক্য গঠনের নিয়ম: Subject + মূল verb এর present form + extension

Present continuous tense

• বর্তমানে কোন কাজ চলছে বা ঘটছে বুঝালে তখন Present Continous tense হয়।
• Rule: বাক্যে now, at this moment, at this time, at present, still ইত্যাদি থাকলে বাক্যটি Present continuous হয়।
• দুটি বর্তমান ঘটনা while/when দ্বারা যুক্ত হলে while/when যুক্ত অংশটি Present Continuous Tense হয়।
• বাক্য গঠনের নিয়ম: Subject + am/is/are + মূল verb এর সাথে 'ing' + extension

Present perfect tense

• কোন কাজ এই মাত্র শেষ হয়েছে কিন্তু তার ফল এখনো বর্তমান এরূপ অর্থ প্রকাশ করলে তখন Present Perfect tense হয়। আবার অতীতের কোনো কাজ এখনো চলছে এমন বুঝাতেও এই tense ব্যবহৃত হয়।
• Rule: বাক্যে already, just, just now, yet, never, ever, lately, recently ইত্যাদি থাকলে Present perfect tense হয়।
• Present perfect tense-এ 'a period of time' বুঝতে for এবং 'a point of time' বুঝতে since ব্যবহৃত হয়।
• বাক্য গঠনের নিয়ম: Subject + subject অনুযায়ী সাহায্যকারী ক্রিয়া have/has + মূল verb এর Past participle from + extension

Present perfect continuous tense

• যখন কোনো কাজ পূর্বে শুরু হয়ে বর্তমানে চলতেছে এরকম ভাব বুঝায় তখন present Perfect Continuous Tense হয়।
• Rule: বাক্যে যাবৎ, ধরে, হতে, থেকে অর্থে for বা since থাকলে Present perfect continuous tense হয়। তবে উল্লেখ্য, যেসব Verb এর continuous সেসব Verb এ Tense আসলে তাদেরকে Present perfect করতে হবে। অতীতের নির্দিষ্ট সময় থেকে আরম্ভ হয়ে এখনো চলছে বোঝাতে present perfect বা present perfect continous tense হয়। আর এক্ষেত্রে since হয়। কাজের সময় ব্যাপক ও অনির্দিষ্টভাবে উল্লেখ থাকলে for বসে ।
  Example:
  Raju has been sleeping since 7 a.m.
  Ripon has been writing for two hours.
• বাক্য গঠনের নিয়ম: Subject + have been/has been + মূল verb + ing + for/since + extension

Past indefinite tense

• অতীতে কোনো নির্দিষ্ট সময়ে কোন কাজ সংঘটিত হয়েছিল এরূপ বোঝাতে Past Indefinite tense হয়।
• Rule: Yesterday, ago, long ago, long since, last, last night, last week, last month, last year, the day before yesterday ইত্যাদি শব্দগুচ্ছ Past indefinite tense নির্দেশ করে।

  I went there long ago.
  He talked to me over phone last night.
• বাক্য গঠনের নিয়ম: Subject + মূল verb এর past form + extension

Past Continuous tense

• অতীতে কোনো কাজ চলছিল, শেষ হয়নি এরূপ বোঝাতে Past Continous tense ব্যবহৃত হয়।
• বাক্য গঠনের নিয়ম: Subject + was/were + মূল verb এর সাথে ing + extension

Past perfect tense

• অতীতের দুটি কাজের মধ্যে যেটি আগে সম্পন্ন হয় সেটি Past Perfect Tense এবং পরের কাজটি Past Indefinite tense এ হয়।
• Rule: অতীতের দুটি ক্রমিক ঘটনার ক্ষেত্রে Before এর পূর্বে এবং After এর পরে Past perfect tense হয়, অন্যটি হয় Past indefinite।
  Example:
  The patient had died before the doctor came.
  He passed the examination after he had worked hard.
• বাক্য গঠনের নিয়ম: Subject + Had + মূল verb এর Past Participle form + extension

Past perfect continuous tense

• অতীতের কোনো কাজ কিছু সময় ব্যাপী চলমান ছিল এমন বুঝালে Past Perfect continous Tense হয়।
• Rule: অতীতের দুটি ক্রমিক ঘটনার ক্ষেত্রে একটির আগে অন্যটি চলছিল এরূপ বোঝাতে চলমান কাজটি Past Perfect continuous tense হয়, অন্যটি হয় Past Indefinite.
• বাক্য গঠনের নিয়ম: Subject + Had been + মূল verb এর সাথে 'ing' + extension

Future indefinite tense

• ভবিষ্যতে স্বাভাবিকভাবে কোন কিছু ঘটবে বা হবে এমন বুঝালে Future Indefinite Tense হয়ে থাকে।
  Examples:
  You shall go to school tomorrow.
  They will call her.
• বাক্য গঠনের নিয়ম: Subject + Shall/will + মূল verb এর present form + extension.

Future continuous tense

• ভবিষ্যতে কোন কাজ কিছু সময় ধরে চলতে থাকবে এমন বুঝালে future continous Tense হয়।
• Rule: ভবিষ্যতে কোন কাজ আরম্ভ হবে কিন্তু তার আগ পর্যন্ত অন্য একটি কাজ চলতে থাকবে এরূপ বুঝালে যে কাজটি চলতে থাকবে তার verb-এর future continuous tense হয়।
• বাক্য গঠনের নিয়ম: Subject + shall be / will be + মূল verb-এর সাথে 'ing' + extension.

Future perfect tense

• ভবিষ্যতে কোনো নির্দিষ্ট কাজ কোন সময় হয়ে থাকবে বোঝালে অথবা একটি কাজের পূর্বে অন্য একটি কাজ হবে বোঝালে যে কাজটি অপেক্ষাকৃত পূর্বে সম্পন্ন হবে সেটা Future Perfect Tense হয়।
• Rule: ভবিষ্যতের দুটি কাজের মধ্য একটি আগে শেষ হয়ে থাকবে এরূপ বোঝালে সম্পন্ন হয়ে যাওয়া কাজটি Future perfect tense হয় এবং অন্যটি হয় present indefinite.
• Note: অনেক সময় ভবিষ্যতে কোন একটি নির্দিষ্ট কাজ নির্দিষ্ট সময়ের মধ্যে সম্পন্ন হতে হবে এমন ইঙ্গিত থাকে।
• বাক্য গঠনের নিয়ম: Subject + shall have/will have + মূল verb এর Past Participle form + extension.

Future perfect continuous tense

• ভবিষ্যৎ কালের কোন কাজ কোন নির্দিষ্ট সময় শেষ হওয়ার পূর্ব পর্যন্ত চলতে থাকবে বোঝালে অথবা ভবিষ্যতের দুটি কাজের মধ্যে একটি কাজ ভবিষ্যতে শুরু হয়ে কিছু সময় ধরে চলতে থাকবে এরকম বুঝালে Future Perfect Continous Tense হয় আর যে কাজটি পরে হতে থাকবে তা Present Indefinite Tense এ হয়।
• বাক্য গঠনের নিয়ম: Subject + will/shall + have been + মূল verb এর Past Participle form + extension
