Preposition হলো এমন শব্দ যা কোন Noun বা Pronoun -এর পূর্বে বসে তার সাথে বাক্যস্থিত অন্য কোন শব্দের সম্পর্ক প্রকাশ করে ।
▣ কর্তায়— শূন্য বিভক্তি ➺ ——
❐ Ramkamal is a boy. (No preposition)
▣ কর্মে— কে রে, প্রতি ➺ To
❐ The boy goes to school. (স্কুলের প্রতি বা দিকে)
❐ The book was given to Ram. (রামকে)
▣ করণে— দিয়া,দ্বারা, কর্তৃক ➺ by (a person / a doer) with (a thing/ an instrument)
❐ The snake was killed by Ram. (রামের দ্বারা) [ by a doer ]
❐ The cake was eaten by the dog.
❐ She wrote the letter with a pen. (কলমের দ্বারা) [with an instrument]
▣ নিমিত্তে — জন্য ➺ for
❐ I waited for him. (তাহার জন্য)
▣ অপাদান—হইতে,থেকে, চেয়ে ➺ from (থেকে), than (চেয়ে)
❐ The apple fell from the tree. (গাছ থেকে)
❐ He will not take less than ten rupees.(দশ টাকার চেয়ে কম )
▣ সম্বন্ধে—র, এর ➺ of
❐ This is the book of Ram. (রামের বই)
▣ অধিকরণে—এ, য়, তে ➺ in, at
❐ He lives in Kolkata. (কলকাতায়)
❐ I live at Gobindapur. (গোবিন্দপুরে)
❐ There is a lot of fish in the river. (নদীতে)
📖 Some Rules of single Prepositions
❐ প্রথমে আমরা কিছু single Preposition এর বাংলা অর্থসহ উদাহরণের মাধ্যমে আলোচনা করার চেষ্টা করব। যাতে করে Rules of Prepositions এর উপর প্রাথমিক ধারণা তৈরি হয় । তবে এখানে ধৈর্য্য এবং মনোযোগের সহিত পড়তে হবে নতুবা ভাল ফলাফল পাওয়া যাবে না । অতঃপর তুলনামূলক বিশ্লেষণের মাধ্যমে Rules of Prepositions এর আলোচনা করব । এতে করে সমুদয় বিষয়টা আত্নস্থ করতে সুবিধা হবে। চলুন তাহলে শুরু করা যাক ।
📖 About
▣ (i) বিষয়ে : About এর একটি অর্থ হল বিষয়ে বা সম্বন্ধে । যেমন : I know every thing about him. (আমি তার সম্বন্ধে সবকিছু জানি।)
▣ (ii) চারদিকে: এর অন্য একটি অর্থ হল চারদিকে। অর্থাৎ কোন কিছুর চারদিকে । তার চারদিকে ঘিরে অন্য একটি কাজ ঘটছে, যেমন : I wrapped a piece of cloth about my finger. (আমি আমার আঙ্গুলের চারপাশে এক খন্ড কাপড় জড়ালাম।) (এখানে about = around)
▣ (iii) প্রায় : About এর আরেকটি অর্থ হল প্রায় বা কাছাকাছি । যেমন : নিচের A দাগটির দৈর্ঘ্য, ধরা যাক, ৬ ইঞ্চি। B দাগটি A এর চেয়ে সামান্য ছোট, অর্থাৎ প্রায় (about) A এর মত ।
❐ ABতাহলে বলা যায় This stick is about six inches long.
▣ (iv) উপলক্ষে : She came to our house about that matter. (সে সেই ঘটনা উপলক্ষে আমাদের বাড়িতে এসেছিল।)

▣ (i) স্থান : কোন স্থানের নির্দিষ্ট কোন অবস্থানকে বুঝতে at ব্যবহৃত হয় ।যেমন: সে খুলনায় থাকে— He lives at Khulna. আবার একই থাকে ছোট স্থান ও বড় স্থান উল্লেখ থাকলে ছোট স্থানের ক্ষেত্রে at এবং বড় স্থানের In ক্ষেত্রে ব্যবহৃত হয় ।
❐ যেমন: সে বাংলাদেশের হবিগঞ্জে থাকে -- He lives at Habiganj in Bangladesh.
▣ (ii) সময় : He will come at 5 P. M.
▣ (iii) মূল্য : The chair has been priced at four hundred taka.
▣ (iv) মাত্রা : The car ran at 120 miles per hour.
▣ (v) দিকে : at কখনও কখনও “দিকে” অর্থ প্রকাশ করে ।
❐ যেমন : The dog ran at the new-comer.
❐ The dog barked (ঘেউ ঘেউ করা) at me.
📖 By
▣ (i) পাশে : ধরা যাক , Y হল একটি বস্তু, তার পাশে আরেকটি বস্তু Z রয়েছে। এদের সহাবস্থান সম্পর্ক বুঝাতে হলে by ব্যবহার করতে হবে। যেমন- Rahim sat by me. (রহিম আমার পাশে বসেছিল।)
▣ (ii) কাছাকাছি সময়ে, নাগাদ : সে পাঁচটা নাগাদ ফিরবে – He will return by 5P.M.
❐ লক্ষ্য কর, by 5 P.M. বলতে 5 টার আগে যে কোন সময়কে বুঝাতে পারে, তবে তা হবে 5 টার খুব কাছাকাছি।
▣ (iii) মাধ্যমে : কর্তা সরাসরি কোন কাজ করবে না, কাজটি পরোক্ষভাবে কৃত হবে এরূপ বুঝাতে by ব্যবহৃত হয় ।
❐ যেমন: The work was done by him.
❐ She had her rice bought by her servant.
❐ Kill the snake by the stick.
▣ (iv) অনুসারে : Now it is 10 p.m. by my watch. (আমার ঘড়ি অনুসারে এখন রাত দশটা বাজে।) (v) পরিমাপ : বিশেষ ক'রে প্রস্থের পরিমাপের আগে :
❐ Our dining table is 4 feet by 2 feet.
▣ (vi) শপথ করা : You swore (শপথ করেছিলে) by God (ঈশ্বরের নামে) that you would never tell a lie.
📖 In
▣ (i) স্থান : In দ্বারা কোন স্থানের মধ্যবর্তী জায়গাকে বুঝানো হয়। উদাহরণ : I live in Dhaka.
❐ They live in a large (বিশাল) room.
▣ (ii) সময়কাল : কোন নির্দিষ্ট সময়কালের মধ্যে একটি কাজ ঘটে, ঘটেছিল, ঘটবে ইত্যাদি বুঝাতে in ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন- He will come in an hour.
▣ (iii) অবস্থা : He is in good health. The machine is in good condition.
▣ (iv) ক্ষেত্রে : In this case, the shopkeeper is guilty, not the customer.
▣ (v) বিবেচনায় : Please do it in my own interest.
📖 of ( এর )
▣ (i) উদ্ভুত : He came of a good family.
▣ (ii)মালিকানা : This pen is of my sister's.
▣ (iii) উপকরণ : The gold of this ring is pure.
❐ This house is built of brick.
❐ This basket is made of bamboo.
▣ (iv) অভিন্ন সম্পর্ক :
❐ city of Dhaka = ঢাকা শহর ।
❐ district of Khulna = খুলনা জেলা
▣ (v) বিষয় :
❐ I know nothing of (= about) it.
▣ (vi) কারণ :
❐ die + of + রোগের নাম বা অন্য কারণে এরূপে ব্যবহৃত হয়, যেমন : He died of diarrhoea.
📖 On upon
▣ (i) উপরি তলের সংস্পর্শ : যেমন-- এই চেয়ারে ( = চেয়ারের উপরে) বস। sit on this chair.
❐ Put the book on the table. (টেবিলের উপর বইটি রাখ)
▣ (ii) নির্দিষ্ট দিন বা তারিখ : He will come on the 15th of this month.
▣ (আমরা ভাত খেয়ে বাঁচি = আমরা ভাতের উপর নির্ভরশীল হয়ে বাঁচি।)
▣ (iii) অনুসারে : He was forgiven by the teacher on my request.
❐ He took one weak's leave on medical advice.
▣ (iv) পরপরই, ফলস্বরূপ : on reading the letter (চিঠিটি পড়েই), she started weeping.
▣ on receiving this message (সংবাদ), he was very happy.
▣ (v) উপলক্ষ : I thank you on your success.
❐ He came here on the occasion and joined the party.
▣ (vi) বিষয়ে : He wrote a fine book on grammar.
▣ (তিনি ব্যাকরণ বিষয়ে বা ব্যাকরণের উপর একটি চমৎকার বই লিখেছিলেন।)
❐ We shall discuss on it later. (পরে আমরা এ বিষয়ে আলাপ করব।)
📖 To
▣ (i) দিক, দূর থেকে কোন নির্দিষ্ট দিকে : একটি কাজ ঘটতে ঘটতে অন্য একটি দিকে অগ্রসর হচ্ছে এরূপ দেখান হয়েছে ।: I am going to Dhaka. (আমি ঢাকা যাচ্ছি।)
❐ বক্তা যখন কথাটি বলছে তখন সে ঢাকা থেকে দূরে –ধরা যাক A বিন্দুতে। সে ঢাকায় পৌঁছার আগ পর্যন্ত তার বাক্যে to ব্যবহার করতে পারবে। অর্থাৎ ঢাকায় এসে পৌঁছানোর পর সে আর বলতে পারবে না - "I am going to Dhaka. " তখন তাকে বলতে হবে। "I am in Dhaka" চিত্র দিয়ে এই in কে নিম্নরূপ বুঝানো যেতে পারে ৷চিত্রের বিন্দু (Y) টিকে বুঝাতে হলে in ব্যবহার করতে হবে; যেমন : I am in a danger. He is in the hall room now.
▣ (ii) অনুযায়ী : I found the place to my liking. (আমি বইটিকে পছন্দসই হিসেবে পেয়েছিলাম = বইটি ছিল আমার পছন্দের অনুযায়ী।) This food is not to my taste. (এ খাদ্য আমার রুচির অনুগামী নয় । )
▣ (iii) পর্যন্ত : We want to fight to the end of the battle.
❐ এই ব্যবহারটি মূলত : (i)-এর মত ।
▣ (iv) প্রতি, উদ্দেশ্যে : Send a letter to Rahim.
❐ We invited him to the party. এই ব্যবহারটিও মূলত (i) এর মত।
▣ (v) পরিণাম : He was sentenced to the jail. (তাকে জেলে পাঠান হল ।)
❐ Burn the letter to ashes. (চিঠিটিকে পোড়াতে পোড়াতে ছাই বানিয়ে ফেল ।)
❐ Beat the dog to death. (কুকুরটিকে মারতে মারতে মেরে ফেল'।)
▣ (vi) অনুপাত : The dying ( মুমূর্ষু ) bird was brought back to life.
❐ What number is to 10 as 20 is to 40? (40 এর সাথে 20 এর যে অনুপাত 10 এর সাথে কোন্ সংখ্যায় সেই অনুপাত?)
❐ Ten to one will he succeed. (সে 10 ভাগের একভাগ কৃতকার্য হবে। )

▣ (i) সাথে : He lives with me.
❐ You went with your brother.
▣ (ii) উপর : Do not be angry with me. (আমার উপর রাগান্বিত হয়ো না।)
❐ Be patient with a rogue. (শঠের উপর ধৈর্য ধারণ কর।)
▣ (iii) দিয়ে : উপরকরণ বুঝাতে : He killed the man with a knife.
❐ I do every thing with my own hand.
▣ (iv) সত্ত্বেও : With (= for = in spite of ) all his weaknesses, he is a leader. (তার যাবতীয় দুর্বলতা থাকা সত্ত্বেও সে একজন নেতা।)
❐ With all her riches, she is unhappy. (তার যাবতীয় ধন দৌলত সত্ত্বেও সে অসুখী।)
▣ (v) কাজের ভাব : She looked at the poor man with suspicion.
▣ (সে গরিব লোকটার দিকে সন্দেহের চোখে তাকাল ।)
❐ I read the book with much interest. (অত্যন্ত আগ্রহ নিয়ে আমি বইটি পড়লাম।)
❐ He looked at me with satisfaction. (সে সন্তুষ্টির সাথে আমার দিকে তাকাল । )
▣ (vi) পার্থক্য বুঝাতে, পৃথকীকরণ অর্থে : Do not part with such a good pen. (এত সুন্দর একটা কলম হাতছাড়া কর না ।)
▣ (vii) মালিকানা : The book is with my younger brother.
❐ The keys (চাবি) are with (কাজে) the caretaker.
▣ (viii) পরপরই : With these word ( এই কথাগুলো শুনে), he went away.
❐ With such a remark (মন্তব্য) he left the place crying.

▣ (i) কোন স্থানের দিকে- বুঝাতে :
❐ I started for Chittagong.
▣ (ii) ব্যক্তি/বস্তুর জন্য- বুঝাতে :
❐ I am waiting for Rishana.
❐ It is a book for children.
❐ My father is anxious for my safety.
▣ (iii) উদ্দেশ্য/কর্ম- বুঝাতে :
❐ Hakim has came to Dhaka for living.
❐ Let us go for a walk.
❐ I am learning English for pleasure.
▣ (iv) ব্যাপক সময়ের ব্যাপ্তি- বুঝাতে :
❐ He has been waiting for me for three hours.
❐ I am for the proposal.
❐ They voted for independence in referendum.
▣ (vi) কারণ - বুঝাতে :
❐ Rajshahi is famous for mangoes.
▣ (vii) নিচের Noun গুলোর পরে 'for' বসে:
❐ Ambition, respect, affection, anxiety, apology, appetite, aptitude, blame, candidate, capacity, compassion, compensation, contempt, craving, desire, esteem, fitness, fondness, guarantee, leisure, liking, match, motive, need, opportunity, partiality, pity, prediction, pro ext, relish, remorse, reputation, surety etc.
▣ (viii) নিচের Adjective ও Participle গুলোর পর 'for' বসে :
❐ Indispensable, anxious, angry, mad, celebrated. concerned, conspicuous, customary, designed. destined, eager, eligible, eminent, fit, good, grateful, notorious, penitent, prepared, proper, qualified, ready, sorry, sufficient, useful etc.
▣ (ix) নিচের Verb-গুলোর পর Preposition 'for' বসে :
❐ Atone, long, lament, canvass, care, clamour, feel, hope, mourn, pine, start, stipulate, sue, wish, yearn etc.

▣ (i) কোন ব্যক্তি/বস্তু/স্থান থেকে- বুঝাতে :
❐ The girl came from abroad.
❐ The train arrived from Khulna.
❐ I have heard it from Nafisa.
❐ I want relief from monotony.
▣ (ii) কোন ব্যক্তি/বস্তু এর উৎস- বুঝাতে :
❐ He was blind from birth .
❐ These lives are from John Milton.
▣ (iii) কোন বস্তু যা থেকে তৈরী- বুঝাতে :
❐ Street is made from iron.
▣ (iv) নিচের Noun গুলোর পর ‘from' বসে।
❐ Distannce, cessation, deliverance, descent, digression, scope, exemption, inference, respite etc.
▣ (v) নিচের Verb-গুলোর পর ‘from' বসে ।

▣ (iii) রূপান্তরিত হওয়া— বুঝাতে :

▣ (i) উপরে উচ্চতর জায়গায়- বুঝাতে: He held an umbrella over my head.
▣ (ii) কোন কিছু বেশি বুঝাতে: She is over sixty head.

▣ (i) ভিতরে দিয়ে এক পাশ থেকে অন্য পার্শ্বে অতিক্রম করে যাওয়া বুঝাতে:

▣ (i) কোন কিছুর তুলনায় উচ্চতর স্থান/অবস্থান- বুঝাতে :

▣ (ii) কোন কিছুর চেয়ে বেশী- বুঝাতে :

▣ (i) কারো বিরোধিতা করা- বুঝাতে :

▣ (iii) কোন ব্যক্তি/বস্তুর স্থলে - বুঝালে:

❐ এ পর্যায়ে আমরা প্রতিটি Preposition এর Rules উদাহরণের সাহায্যে ধরে ধরে আলোচনা করব । আশা করছি ধৈর্য্য সহকারে পড়লে Preposition নিয়ে আর কখনো দুশ্চিন্তা করতে হবে না । মনোযোগের সহিত প্রতিটি টার্ম বুঝে বুঝে পড়ার অনুরোধ রইল ।
📖 Rules of Home
❐ Home নিজেই adverbial of direction হয়। তাই এর আগে : to বসে না।
❐ যেমন- He is going home.
❐ কিন্তু যদি home এর পূর্বে কোন শব্দ বা phrase থাকে তবে এর পূর্বে to বসাতে হবে ।
❐ যেমন- She returned to her father's home.
❐ Home, here , there, abroad, upstairs, downstairs. now, here, somewhere ইত্যাদির আগে to বসে না। তবে এর ব্যতিক্রম from here to there.
❐ He will go abroad for higher education, [go to abroad হবে না]
❐ He goes home. [to home হবে না ]
📖 Rules of At home or in home?
❐ বাড়িতে বুঝাতে at home কিংবা in my home / in your home এরূপ ব্যবহার করা যাবে। কিন্তু শুধু home এর পূর্বে in ব্যবহার করা যাবে না। যেমন- বলা যাবে না - You cannot do this in home.
❐ বলা যাবে -You cannot do this at home/in your home.
▣ কোন স্থানে পৌঁছানো বুঝাতে arrive at/in কিন্তু reach at বা in হবে না
❐ The train arrived at the station of 8.15 pm.
❐ Mannan arrived in Dhaka safely.
❐ Reach অর্থও পৌছা, কিন্তু এরপর কোন Preposition বসবে না। যেমন- I reached the airport in good time.
📖 Transport বা যানবাহনের ক্ষেত্রে বিভিন্ন Prepositions এর ব্যবহার :
❐ 1. যে সব যানবাহনের মধ্যে হাঁটা হাঁটি করা যায় তাদের মধ্যে বুঝাতে on বসে ।
▣ On + article + যানবাহন
❐ On the bus, On the plane, On the train, On the ship ইত্যাদি ।
▣ 2. যে সব যানবাহনের মধ্যে হাঁটা হাঁটি করা যায় না তাদের পূর্বে in বসে।
❐ in a car, in a taxi, in a helicopter
▣ 3. যানবাহন ভ্রমণ বুঝাতে By bus, By train, By plane, By air, By boat ইত্যাদি (Article নেই ) ।
❐ He came here by bus.
▣ 4.Cycle, foot, horseback ইত্যাদির আগে by, in এর পরিবর্তে on বসে ।
❐ He came on foot.
❐ He came on a new cycle.
▣ 5. গাড়ি থেকে, ঘোড়া থেকে, বাস থেকে পড়ে যাওয়া বা নামা অর্থে off বসে।
❐ He fell off the bus.
▣ Up, on, over, upon, onto, into, above এর মধ্যে পার্থক্য :
❐ 1. On : ছোট বস্তুটি উপরে লেগে থাকা বোঝালে on বসে।
❐ There is a book on the table.
▣ 2. Over : বড় বস্তুটি উপরে লেগে থাকা বুঝালে Over বসে।
❐ There is a blanket over the baby.
▣ 3. Over : কোন কিছুর উপর দিয়ে কোন কিছু যাওয়া বুঝালে Over হয়।
❐ The cat jumped over the table.
▣ 4. Above : অনেক উপরে বুঝাতে Above বসে।
❐ The sky is above our head.
▣ 5. Up : নিচ থেকে উপরে গেলে Up হয়।
❐ He went up the hill.
▣ 6. Upon : বস্তুটি উপরে লেগে থাকা বোঝালে upon বসে । Up গিয়ে যদি On এ মিলিত হয় তাহলে হবে। যেমন-
❐ The cat sat upon the table - বিড়ালটি টেবিলের উপর বসল। অর্থাৎ বিড়াল লাফ দিয়ে উপরে উঠে বসে ।
▣ 7. Onto : To গিয়ে যদি On এ মিলিত হয় তাহলে Onto বসে।
❐ I threw the pen onto the table.
▣ 8. Down : খাড়া নিচের দিকে বুঝাতে এবং উপর থেকে নিচে বুঝাতে Down বসে।
❐ I got down stairs.
▣ 9. Into : বাহির থেকে ভেতরে বুঝালে কিংবা পরিবর্তন বোঝালে into বসে ।
▣ (a) Translate this sentence into English.

▣ 10. Across : আড়াআড়ি বোঝালে across বসে।

❐ 1. কোন কিছু তৈরির পর ঐ উপাদানটি দেখা গেলে made of বসে ।

❐ 2. কোন কিছু তৈরির পর ঐ উপাদানটি দেখা না গেলে made from বসে।
❐ The paper is made from wood/ bamboo.
❐ 3. কোন কিছু বুঝতে পারা অর্থে make out বসে ।
❐ I can not make out what you say.
❐ 4. গঠিত বোঝালে made up of বসে।
❐ Our family is made up of five members.
❐ 5. কোন স্থানে তৈরি বোঝালে made in বসে।
❐ Nokia is made in Hungary.
❐ 6. কোন সালে তৈরি বোঝালে made in বসে।
❐ It was made in 1995.
❐ 7. কারো দ্বারা তৈরি বোঝালে made by হবে ।
❐ It was made by Nokia.
📖 ঘড়ির সময় বুঝাতে:
❐ 1. নির্দিষ্ট / fixed ঘড়ির সময় বুঝাতে at বসে ।
❐ a. He came here at 5 p.m.
❐ b. He was born at 6 a.m. on Sunday.
❐ 2. দ্বারা/অনুসারে বুঝাতে by বসে।
❐ What is the time by your watch?
❐ 3. বাকী থাকা বুঝাতে to বসে। এখন দশটা বাজতে ১৫ মিনিট বাকী ।
❐ Now it is quarter to 10.
❐ 4. বেশী হলে past বসে । এখন দশটা ১৫ বাজে
❐ Now it is quarter past 10.
❐ 5. এখন দশটা দশ বাজে ।
❐ Now it is 10 past 10.
❐ 6. এখন সাড়ে দশটা বাজে।

❐ 1. Familiar to (পরিচিত) : His face is familiar to me.
❐ 2.Introduce to (পরিচিত করানো ) : I introduced him to my brothers.
❐ 3. Known to (পরিচিত) : He is known to me.
❐ 4. Strange to (অপরিচিত) : The name is strange to me.
📖 উদাসীন অর্থে to এর ব্যবহার :

📖 নগর, শহর, দেশ, এদের আগে in বসিয়ে করবে বেশ।
📖 সপ্তাহ, মাস, বছর, ঋতু, দশক, যুগ, শতাব্দী,
এদের আগে in বসানো হয় আজ অব্দি।
📖 প্রভাত, দুপুর, গোধূলি, রাত, এদের আগে
at বসিয়ে করবে বাজিমাত।
📖 সময়ের আগে at বসে, দিনের আগে on,
দিনের অংশ ভাগে in না বসালে,
করবে তবে Wrong।
📖 Festival-এ at, নম্বরেও at, with হয় বস্তুতে,
এইভাবে preposition শিখবে আনন্দ আর ফুর্তিতে।
📖 Person-এ by, পাশে বুঝাতেও by,
(যানবাহনের আগে) কিন্তু in a car,
দক্ষতায় অদক্ষতায় at না বসালে সব হবে ছারখার।
📖 ছোট হলে at, বড় হলে in, কখন হয়?
এই পার্থক্য না বুঝলে মনে থাকবে ভয়।
📖 বাহির থেকে ভিতরে into ব্যবহার
করো, ভিতর থেকে বাহিরে হয় out of,
Preposition না বুঝলে মুড থাকবে off.
📖 লেগে (স্পর্শ করে) থাকলে on হয়, নইলে
হয় above, Since, for বুঝ না, কেন না।
📖 শুরু থেকে বুঝাতে since হয়, নইলে হয় for,

❐ He goes to school every day. সে প্রতিদিন স্কুলের দিকে যায়/ সে প্রতিদিন স্কুলে যায়
❐ He came to me. সে আমার কাছে এসেছিল
❐ They fought to the last. তারা শেষ পর্যন্ত লড়েছে
❐ I pray to Allah. আল্লাহর কাছে দোয়া করি
❐ বিঃদ্রঃ আসা এবং যাওয়া বুঝালেও home, abroad, here, there এর আগে to বসে না।
❐ ব্যতিক্রমঃ from here to there.
❐ বিঃদ্রঃ তবে কিছু কিছু শব্দ রয়েছে যে শব্দগুলোর পর preposition ব্যবহৃত হলে সবসময় নির্দিষ্ট একটি preposition বসবে। এই preposition গুলো ভালোভাবে মুখস্ত করে নেবেন বিভিন্ন admission ও চাকরি পরীক্ষায় preposition গুলো প্রায় সময় এসে থাকে।

❐ কোন বিষয় বা ভাষায় বুঝালে তার আগে in বসে।

📖 Off-এর ব্যবহার
❐ নির্দিষ্ট স্থান থেকে দূরে কিংবা সময়ের ব্যবধান বোঝাতে off ব্যবহূত হয়। যেমন: Summer is not far off now. গ্রীষ্ম এখন বেশি দূরে নয়।
❐ কোনো কিছু দূরীভূত হয়েছে বোঝাতে off ব্যবহূত হয়। যেমন: Take your shoes off. তোমার জুতো খোলো।
